wardrobe updates

You were all (all three of you readers out there) waiting for me to eat my words from this post, weren't you? That's ok, I was asking for it. So, no, although I didn't need anything new for spring, I did want to make a few updates, especially in the shoe department. While I love ballet flats and they will always be a classic, I'm loving the pointy-toe-D'orsay-flat trend.

mindful closet wardrobe updates

These are from Chinese Laundry and I picked them up at TJ Maxx. I couldn't find this exact pair online, but these are similar. Also wearing Diane Von Furstenberg "Hanky" top (various discounted options here, here, and here) and James Jeans "Twiggy" jeans. Adorable baby for display purposes only (he's wearing a lovely number from the BumGenius Elementals line).

Have you made any updates to your wardrobe recently? I have a few more
that you'll see soon enough...

lucky guide: gamine

lucky guide: gamine

Next up in the Lucky Guide to Mastering any Style series: gamine. Although the word was originally used to describe mischievous street urchins, in the 1950's and 1960's gamine became synonomous with the style of Audrey Hepburn: simple, classic, chic, and a little bit boyish. The style can especially be seen in her movies Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Funny Face (you've seen all of these, right? If not, you have homework).

To translate the style into your wardrobe, there are a few must have pieces: striped mariniere tops (originally worn by the French navy), boatneck tops, narrow cropped pants, and ballet flats. No overthinking required. Easy, right?

If I had to describe my style, especially my day-to-day style, it would be gamine. It's easy and comfortable and chic without trying too hard.

what would sofia wear?

When I'm in doubt about how to get dressed or whether or not I should make a particular purchase, I think WWSW - what would Sofia wear?  Sofia being Sofia Coppola, of course, one of my fashion idols. When I ask this question, the answer is usually something simple, navy or black, classic, stripes, ballet flats, etc. Makes things easy for me. I actually saw her on Lincoln Road one time while I was living in Miami, and she looked as expected - completely chic.
