pinterest strikes again

pinterest strikes again

Last Friday, I attended the St. Louis Fashion Blogger Award nominations, hosted by ALIVE magazine at Craft Alliance in Grand Center.  Looking for a little sartorial inspiration, I jumped on Pinterest and saw this image on my style board:

It reminded me that I actually hadn't worn my metallic belt that I was so excited about since May (here). I decided to try it with white instead of black and paired it with a thrifted Forever 21 peplum top, H&M pencil skirt and thrifted sandals.

And guess what? I was nominated for "Best Writing" and "Best Fashion Blog"! Thanks to the people who nominated me (whoever you are!) - I was so surprised.  It was also nice to meet many of my fellow fashion bloggers (like Pysche, Julia, Lindsay, Sarah, Marisa, and Samantha) in person for the first time - they are all such sweet, friendly girls.

Don't forget, there's more mindful closet on facebook (like the page for updates!) and twitter - and I recently gave in to Instagram too...

dressing for the heat

dressing for the heat

Summer really is the hardest season to dress for. In order to stay cool, the less clothing, the better, and the less close to your body, the better. The fewer the pieces, the more impact they each have.  Of course, dresses are always the simplest of simple outfits and shorts are easy. But what if you're not a fan of wearing shorts, like me? Or if you'd like an alternative to dresses?

Here's my formula for those alternatives: a sleeveless top that floats away from the body + narrow cropped pants + a few great accessories.

How cute is this top ($19.99) from Target?

Bauble Bar has great, trendy, affordable jewelry, like these earrings ($26) .

I've added this Splendid tank ($60) to my wish list

What do you guys think? How do you deal with the heat?

peplum two ways

peplum two ways

While in California over Memorial Day, I picked up this Forever 21 peplum blouse at a secondhand store for something like $7, and it's become one of my favorite tops. The peplum gives nice definition to the smallest part of my waist, and if I overindulge at dinner, hides any evidence under its little flare.

Here I wore it for a professional presentation and paired it with my new Madewell necklace, Gap wide leg pants, and Sofft shoes

Here I wore it for a less formal work day, with a necklace I found at a flea market, James Jeans , and Nine West sandals.

Anyone else out there trying and loving the peplum?

packing for summer travel: part deux

packing for summer travel: part deux

Since I only brought a few articles of clothing for a 5 day trip, I repeated myself often, which doesn't bother me since you rarely see the same people day after day when you're not at home.

First of all, how amazing is that view? I sincerely did not want to come home. I wore this outfit two days in a row and it was perfect for a variety of activities including visiting a seal rehabilitation center, lunch with family, walking on the beach, shopping at a high end mall and shopping at thrift stores.

I bought this top at Buffalo Exchange in Costa Mesa, it's from Forever 21 and still had the tags on. I like it because it doesn't seem too trendy or cheap. I wore it with my Baublebar necklace, thrifted jeans, and Dr. Scholls sandals for grabbing a burger and walking around downtown Laguna Beach.

Finally, here's what I wore in the airport - multiple layers since you can go from being burning up to freezing at any point on a plane.

Over the weekend, we finally had some much needed sunshine. I was inspired to inject some color into my usual black for a night out.

My dress is from Forever 21, my necklace is a gift from my husband via Etsy, and my shoes are Kensie via Century 21 (lots of 21's!).

The shoes have a suprise hit of color from behind.

I had a great weekend - a friend was in town visiting, so lots of good food - Taste on Saturday night and Pasteria Sunday night. It was my first time at Pasteria and it was awesome, everyone's dish was delicious.

Happy Spring!
