Sometimes, even when you're sticking to your list of needs, you still stumble across something that you can't pass up. For me, it was this Lizzie Fortunato necklace I spotted out of the corner of my eye at Byrd. I've been a fan of her designs since I blogged about them back in 2013, but wouldn't have been able to afford a piece unless it was on consignment.

Whenever I buy something new, I always want to show it off when I first wear it, and later will get more creative with remixing it. For this necklace, I went all black, and just changed it up a bit with a pair of flared black denim.

I'm looking forward to wearing more short sleeves this weekend as it warms up here in St. Louis!

What would you make an exception for if you found a great deal?

Yesterday I posted about Lizzie Fortunato and how much I love her designs. Unfortunately, unless I'm due for a special gift (husband, this is for you), I'm not going to be able to buy any of her pieces any time soon. One of the great things about all of the recent designer collaborations with big box stores (Target, H&M, etc) is that sometimes you can actually get a bit of that unique designer flavor at a fraction of the cost. Duro Olowu's recent collection for J.C. Penney is a great example, and I think this clutch could even satisfy some of my Lizzie Fortunato urge.

It's $40, which is great, but even greater is the fact that I live in a city where most people have no interest in a designer collaboration, so usually these things end up on the clearance rack! I'll wait it out and keep you posted. There's one other thing from the collection that I love.

Imagine you're wearing your comfortable, yet stylish black traveling ensemble, and you're carrying this bag. Awesome.
